Acute appedicitis is a common disease in general but rare in the elderly. This study included the clinical analysis of 134 cases of appendectomy geriatric patients over 60 years of age about its incidence, clinical symptoms, signs, laboratory
findings,
incision method, operative finding, associated diseases and postoperative complications, which were treated at department of general surgery in Seoul Red Cross Hospital during 6 years from January, 1985 to December, 1990.
The results were as Follows;
1) Of 1,610 patients with acute appendicities, 134 cases(8.3%)were aged over 60.
2) There were 57 men and 77 Women. The male to female sex ratio was 1 : 1.35.
3) 57 cases were perforated (42.5%).
4) Associated disease in ederly patients were 50 cases. The cardiovascular disease were 31 cases.
5) Postoperative complications were 36 cases(26.9%).
6) The mortality was zero.
